On-campus housing at the International Students’ Apartment Building is available to students on the day of registration. Students who arrive in Dalian before the day of registration shall arrange their own accommodation.

Student Service

Visa Application:

You may apply for your Chinese Visa at the Chinese Embassy/Consulate in your home country. When applying for your visa, please remember to bring along with you your valid passport, the original copy of the university’s admission notice and a Visa Application Form for Foreign Students Studying in China (also known as the JW201/JW202 form). Do make sure that your letter of admission and your JW201/JW202 form is handed back to you together with your passport after obtaining your Chinese visa. You will need these documents to apply for your Residence Permit after your arrival in Dalian.

International Students who will be studying in China for more than 6 months are required to obtain a Student Visa, also termed as ‘X’ Visa. The Student Visa/‘X’ Visa will only be valid for 30 days after your arrival. You must apply for a Residence Permit within these 30 days in order to obtain a legal status in China at Dalian Public Security Bureau. Students who will be staying and studying in China for less than 6 months may apply for a Visiting Visa, also termed as ‘F’ Visa.

Note: You are discouraged from arriving in China ahead of time due to the short time limit of your visa. Furthermore, you are not eligible to apply for a Residence Permit until you are a registered student of DMU, after the day of registration.

For information regarding the location and the contacts of the Chinese Embassy/Consulate in your country, please visit the following website of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs:
http://www.fmprc.gov.cn/chn/wjb/zwjg/default.htm

Important: Once you arrive in Dalian, you must ensure the Dalian Maritime University has your current address at all times. If, for any reason, Dalian Public Security Bureau wishes to contact you they will reply on the address the university has for you.

Finances:

There are several banks near Dalian Maritime University where you can set up a bank account after you have arrived in Dalian. If you are planning to convert foreign currencies into RMB, the banks in Dalian accept the foreign currencies of: Pound Sterling, Hong Kong Dollar, American Dollar, Euro, Japanese Yen, Canadian Dollar, Australian Dollar, etc.
If you are planning to wire-transfer funds/money to your Dalian bank account, do prepare some “on-hand” cash to cover the expenses needed for short-term housing, meals…etc. To be on a safe side, we recommend students to carry the amount of cash that is enough to cover their monthly living expenses as it takes several working days for the money-transfer to be completed.

Our estimation for the average cost of living per month in Dalian is 3,000 RMB (housing, food and transportation included).

Getting to DMU from the Airport:

The most convenient way to get to DMU from the airport is by taxi. The minimum charge for a taxi is 8 RMB and the regular meter-rate is 2 RMB/km. It will cost you around 30 RMB to get to the university from the airport. It takes approximately 30 minutes to arrive at DMU from the airport, depending on the traffic.

You also have the option of first traveling to Xing Gong Jie Station(兴工街)or Dalian Railway Station (大连火车站) via the airport shuttle bus and then take Bus No. 10 from Xing Gong Jie to Lingnan Middle Road (凌南中路) or take Bus No. 531 from the Railway Station to Dalian Maritime University Station (海事大学站). The airport shuttle fare is 5 RMB/person, Bus No. 10 is 1 RMB and Bus No. 531 costs 2 RMB.

You can also choose Bus No. 701 or No. 717 to transfer No. 10 at Gai Zhou Jie (盖州街) and then get off at Lingnan Middle Road (凌南中路).

Students are recommended to take a taxi to the university when first coming to Dalian, which is efficient and precise to find the location. IEC will arrange airport pick-up for international students.

News

For better understanding of Chinese culture and arousing interests in learning Chinese language, more than 30 international students of IEC went Beijing for cultural experience.

The students from 10 countries, including Russia, Thai, America and Korea, visited the most famous tourist attractions including the Forbidden City, the Great Wall, Summer Palace, and Olympic Green Park. Students travelled both tradition and modern Beijing accompanied by Chinese language teachers of IEC. Of all the attractions, the Great wall is the most favorite. The students were all amazed by this marvelous gigantic dragon.

Although the stay in Beijing was short, all of the students agreed it was a great journey and wish to have one more chance to go to Beijing in the future.
